The
habit of chewing gum in public, may cause discomfort for some individuals, but
a recent scientific study reveals that chewing behavior is actually good for
brain fitness.
Studies
by the National Institute of Radiological Sciences, Japan and several
scientific institutions proves, at least eight places on the human brain can
benefit from such treatment.
Lead
researcher Professor Andy Smith, said, chewing gum, can improve the passionate
and inviting temporary measure blood flow in the brain.
According
to him, respondent was given the task when chewing gum and do not chew well as
parts of their brains scanned to see which areas are most active.
When
the test session conducted for 30 minutes, respondents will press the button
with the thumb to respond to the questions given on the screen.
Respondents
who did not chew gum takes 545 milli seconds to respond, compared to 493 milli
seconds by respondents who chew gum.
According
to him, the most active areas of the brain when chewing is affected areas with
movement and observation.
"A
case can serve as an example, the situation of the manager of Manchester United
football club, Alex Fergusson who always chew gum when his team played. Maybe
it's just coincidence, however, it seems very appropriate action in difficult
situations like that," he said .
He
